Hours: 8.0 hours/day, 260 days/year
Salary: $103,725.00 - $111,554.00 annually - Unrepresented Coordinator Salary Schedule Lane 14-01-0
Purpose: Under general supervision, the Paralegal provides responsible and complex legal and administrative support on behalf of Camas School District. The position assists with legal research, claims management, records retention, compliance, and supports litigation and policy review processes in a public-school environment.

School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.
Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.

Requirements
Essential Functions
- Communicate effectively with staff, administrators, and the public via phone, email, and written correspondence.
- Manage district policies and procedures, and legal updates regarding all areas of school law to assist in the day-to-day operations of the district.
- Provide confidential paralegal and administrative support to the Cabinet, including drafting, filing, and managing documents.
- Intake, track, and distribute legal claims, and notices; maintain accurate records and reports.
- Support the district’s response to OSPI complaints, subpoenas, and discovery requests; coordinate with in-house and outside counsel as needed.
- Provide guidance to district personnel on custody documentation, student record disclosures, and related legal matters.
- Coordinate with outside legal counsel as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and handle highly sensitive documents responsibly.
- Assist with insurance claims, incident reports, and legal budget tracking.
- Participate in equity, diversity, and inclusion training and apply district policies promoting racial and cultural equity.
- Provide support with Title IX, 504, ADA, CRC, HIB, and Discrimination reports.
- Provide support with interpretation of Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- May provide support with redacting of information on public records request.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Professional Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Assistant Studies, or related field; OR paralegal certification plus three years of relevant experience. (Required)
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible paralegal or legal administrative experience. Experience in K-12 public education preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws applicable to K-12 public education, including Public Records Law.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suites, and legal case management software; experience with ProLaw desirable.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements, legal documents, and district policies.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to confidentiality.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an office environment and across district facilities.
- The position may require evening or weekend hours to support negotiations.
- This position involves approximately 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing in a generally clean and healthy environment.
- Requires dexterity for computer and office equipment operation.
- Must be able to manage multiple concurrent tasks and frequent interruptions.
